Location Tracking
I don't think being able to track your young child or toddler is necessarily unethical, but I do think a child gets to an age where its unfair to not give them some freedom and teach your children to be responsible and honest. People track their pets because there's a high likely hood of them getting lost. I think small children also have better chances of getting lost but also worse, kidnapped. I'm not saying that a teenage doesn't have a chance of being held against their own will but it comes to a point that a kid needs to be given a chance to prove they are responsible. I absolutely would never support a bill from congress requiring ID chips in children under the age of 5. The government has no right telling parents how to raise their children, I believe something like this should be up to the parents discretion. I'm not sure how I feel about tracking elderly people. I guess in the case of the GPS shoes I don't have a problem with it because if someone has alzheimer's and gets lost their loved ones would have zero hints as to where that person may be. All in all I guess this is something that should be considered case by case and only the ones involved should be making the decision.

I completely agree with your ideas about the computer chip in young children. I do not think that all children should be forced to have the chips implanted, it should be the parent's decision. This isn't a necessity to life, it would just be helpful, especially if the parents are questioning their child being kidnapped.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about how much freedom and responsibility would come into play when it came to teenagers. It would be hard for them to think they can prove to be responsible without their parents trust in them. There can be many arguments for and against this topic but you did a good job of backing up your points.
I agree with John. I do not think that there should be any set laws on the implementation of tracking device but rather chosen by the discretion of those involved in a particular case. The analogy between the pets and the children really helps to illuminate a sense of freedom, honesty, and responsibility.
ReplyDeleteJohn, you make plenty of good points when talking about a complex issue such as GPS tracking. Only using the chip when you have lost a child or they have been taken is responsible. Watching them all the time is CREEPY.
ReplyDeleteI agree with John completely because i have made the same points about it not being necessary to have to put a chip on your child. And you make a good point when only using the chip if they are lost or are reported missing. I also would not support the bill to have the chip be required for children under the age of 5.
